Chapter 132 The Final 12 Days (8)
- 2 Days Until the Barrier Drops –
For the first time since coming to Genovia, Aoni spent nearly the entire day training with his weapons.
The sole purpose behind this was not only to acclimate to the changes in his body brought about by the rapid increase of stats but also to temper his mind and combat style.
Although he had obtained a wealth of knowledge from his two Swordsmanship passives, they were, in a sense, only a foundation with which the structure of combat experience was missing.
Sure, he could swing Vestr and Austr expertly, attack with multiple strikes, and come in from odd angles, but what good would all that do if he had never been in a fight with a wild monster before?
At present, he was nothing more than a paper tiger, someone who had spent his whole life training for combat but had never actually seen it in person.
Sure, he'd sparred an ungodly number of times back at the academies, but never had his life been threatened, nor had he had a purpose behind his battles.
It was all petty schoolhouse squabbles, beating up bullies, and whatnot, yet as Aoni stood atop the rampart, gliding around in a dance of swords, he believed that if push came to shove, he'd be able to stand up and fight to the bitter end.
He wasn't a sheltered person who'd never seen gore or blood, and there were times when Glacia had neglected to kill her hunt properly, leaving it to him to break a neck or two, so it wasn't as if he were squeamish about the subject.
With sore muscles and covered in sweat, Aoni waved his hand and deposited both of his blades into his inventory, then smirked.
Wolves, bears, some type of weird reptile, ducks there were simply too many for Nyria to count, and due to her limited knowledge of other species, she could only give vague descriptions, leaving the rest to her Lord to figure out.
As for their strength, well, that was another unknown. Because of her natural fear of leaving the barrier or even getting too close to it, Nyria was unable to get a read on the monsters and could only go off their physical size and the "vibe" she got from looking at them.
"You did good. Don't worry about not being able to figure everything out; all I wanted to know was their numbers," giving his birb a gentle hug and a bacon strip from his inventory as a snack, Aoni stared back out toward the barrier again, falling into a state of silence.

"Oh, for fuck sake, HOLD YOUR HORSES, GLACIA!" heaving an annoyed sigh, Aoni did a backward somersault off the rampart and landed inside the confines of the wall, wherein he heard a certain floof banging on the gate.
Since he had been on the northern side of the wall training, he hadn't caught sight of his summon as she approached, and because of his habit of keeping the gate closed, of course, Glacia got locked out...again.
And just like a dog who scratches at the sliding glass door when wanting to come in or go out of the house, Glacia had developed an annoying habit of smacking the gate with enough force to rattle Aoni's brain.
Reaching the gate and lifting the three large stone braces used to keep it shut off the hooks, Aoni suddenly jumped back as the gate swung open, revealing his floof covered from head to toe in gore and dragging along several corpses four times her size.
