Sanctuary: Safe Haven

Chapter 220 The Noctis Network

Chapter 220 The Noctis Network

A week had passed in the sanctuary, and during that time, significant progress had been made on multiple fronts. The once somber aftermath of war had given way to a period of growth and consolidation. The sanctuary was thriving in ways that even Canna hadn't fully anticipated, and the atmosphere buzzed with the energy of new beginnings.

The first major development concerned the orc settlement. After thorough exploration, it was confirmed that there was nothing of substantial value left behind. The armory and weaponry, once the pride of the orc army, were deemed crude and unfit for the sanctuary's standards. The weapons were poorly crafted, their edges dull and their designs primitive.

Even the armor, made from low-quality metals and leather, was more of a hindrance than a help. Canna had initially hoped to find something worth salvaging, but after seeing the state of the equipment, he decided it wasn't worth the effort. The settlement had served its purpose, and now, it was time to move on.

The full exploration had revealed all there was to see, and the decision was made to abandon the site.

Second on the list of developments was Stormrend's settling into his new home. The hydra had claimed a massive tree near Canna's home, the heart of the sanctuary, as his own. The tree was ancient, with thick, twisted roots that burrowed deep into the earth and branches that stretched high into the sky.

It was large enough to comfortably accommodate Stormrend's impressive size, providing him with a secluded spot to rest. Stormrend, like Stormbringer before him, had quickly established a routine. He feasted on groundhogs and rockfowls, filling his belly with their nourishing meat before succumbing to the deep sleep that was characteristic of young dragons.

Canna knew that this was just the beginning of a long slumber. Dragons lived extraordinarily long lives, and their early years were marked by extended periods of rest. Just as Stormbringer had, Stormrend would likely remain asleep for a significant amount of time.

Third, the sanctuary had welcomed a new addition in the form of the rockfowls. These massive birds, with their thick feathers and powerful legs, had quickly adapted to their new environment. Canna had overseen the construction of spacious pens, each as large as ten football fields, to give the rockfowls plenty of room to roam.

The current population of rockfowls had swelled to around 3,000, and Canna had made sure that their needs were fully met. He had a soft spot for these creatures, recognizing their potential not just as a food source, but as a vital part of the sanctuary's ecosystem. They were given ample space to thrive, and their pens were designed to mimic their natural habitat as closely as possible.

The fourth major development was Mortem's collection, which had grown exponentially in strength and variety. The report Mortem delivered to Canna had left him grinning like a fool, unable to contain his excitement. The recent war had provided Mortem with an abundance of new "recruits" for his undead army.

The crown jewel of his collection was the body of the disaster rank orc leader, whose power had been feared by many. Alongside the leader were five true-calamity generals, their bodies carefully preserved by Mortem after they fell in battle. These formidable warriors would become invaluable assets to the sanctuary's defenses. But Mortem hadn't stopped there.

Canna's eyes widened as the implications of Kael's words began to sink in. "You're talking about creating a... a surveillance system?"

"Exactly," Kael confirmed, his excitement growing. "But it's more than just surveillance. Noctis's clones could be stationed in key areas, monitoring everything from the perimeter to the heart of the sanctuary. They could relay information in real-time, allowing us to respond to threats instantly. And because they're so small and numerous, they'd be nearly impossible to detect."

Canna could hardly believe what he was hearing. The idea was brilliant—Noctis's abilities could effectively give them omnipresence within the sanctuary, making it one of the most secure places in existence. The strategic advantages were immense.

"But that's not all," Kael continued, leaning in closer. "We could also use Noctis's clones to gather intelligence outside the sanctuary. They could infiltrate enemy territory, spy on potential threats, and relay crucial information back to us. This would give us a significant edge in any future conflicts."

The more Kael spoke, the more Canna's mind raced with possibilities. With this network in place, they could foresee and counteract threats before they even reached the sanctuary. They could stay one step ahead of their enemies, ensuring the safety and security of everyone within their borders.

"This... this could change everything," Canna murmured, awe creeping into his voice.

Kael nodded, his expression serious. "It will. But it will require careful planning and coordination. Noctis will need to be at the center of this network, and we'll have to make sure it's managed properly. But if we pull this off, Canna, the sanctuary will become an impenetrable fortress."

Canna leaned back in his chair, a grin spreading across his face. He had always believed in the sanctuary's potential, but now, with this new development, that potential was about to be realized in ways he hadn't even dreamed of.

"Let's do it," Canna said, his voice filled with determination. "Let's make this sanctuary the safest place in the world."

Kael smiled, a rare expression of satisfaction on his usually stoic face. "I'll start the preparations immediately."

As the meeting concluded, both Canna and Kael felt a sense of exhilaration. They didn't fully realize it at the time, but that meeting would indeed change the sanctuary forever. The network that Noctis would create would become the sanctuary's greatest asset, a shield that would protect them from dangers both seen and unseen.

And as the week drew to a close, the sanctuary stood on the brink of a new era—one defined by strength, unity, and unshakable security. The challenges ahead would be great, but with the power of the sanctuary's guardians, the brilliance of its leaders, and the loyalty of its inhabitants, there was nothing they couldn't face together.
