10x Cashback: Your Wealth Is Mine

Chapter 135: A New Queen

Chapter 135: A New Queen

Jenny had taken a gamble with The Sentinel and it had worked. When the reporters had been given access, she’d been banking on their fair nature to tilt things in her favor and it had worked.

Okay, not really. What had actually worked was the fact that the reporters had gone straight to the place in Apex with the most activity and that had been her division. All their hardwork had paid off with the reporters sensing the story and covering all the good Jenny had been doing.

At this point, she was sure everyone was tired of hearing about her and her exploits.

Whatever Jasmine had tried to do to stop them, Jenny didn’t know. But it definitely hadn’t worked.@@@@

Time had flown by as if it was in some kind of a hurry and before anyone knew it, the day arrived. The day in which the new queen would be decided.

Jenny entered the boardroom to see her mother already there, sitting at the head of the table. They exchanged glances, Jenny inclining her head respectfully towards her mother. Her victory was all but assured but she couldn’t help but wonder. Would her mother betray her?

She made her way to her seat, smiling and greeting the board members.

A minute later, Jasmine swept into the room. She shot Jenny a quick glare before finding her seat.

After everyone was settled, Clarisse cleared her throat, and the room fell silent. "Ladies and gentlemen." Her gaze swept through the room. "We’re here today to decide who will become the next leader of Apex Investments."

"This decision is very important, not just for the company’s future but for maintaining the values we have always stood for."

The board members nodded solemnly at her words, some attentive while others were skeptical. Glances were exchanged as Clarisse kept speaking.

"As I’m sure we all know, leadership isnt about making tough decisions. It’s about making the right ones. If you can’t make the right decision for the company, no one cares if you made the tough ones."

"And over the years, I am proud to say that I’d been able to make the right decisions to bring Apex to where it is today."

"I apologize for the interruption." Clarisse said in the silence, drawing attention back to herself. If Jenny had anyone who wanted to defy her and vote in her favor, they were firmly against her now. No one wanted a leader who was that... erratic.

"Now that that’s settled, let us proceed to the vote."

Jenny watched, adrenaline coursing through her as the board members stepped up to vote. None of them looked at her and she couldn’t tell what they were thinking. Was it really just as easy as this?

She waited as the last vote was cast and the independent auditors tallied the results.

Finally, one of the auditors stood and handed the results to Clarisse. She glanced at the paper, her expression blank as she turned back to the board.

Jenny’s heart hammered in her chest even if all present will say she looked composed.

"The votes have been counted." Clarisse announced. "By a margin of nine to six, Jenny Voss has been elected chairman of Apex Investments."

Jenny exhaled in relief, feeling lightheaded for a moment. After a moment to compose herself, she stood up with a genuine smile on her face.

"Thank you." She said to the board who could clearly hear the joy in her voice. Her eyes misted but she composed herself. "I’m honored by the confidence you’ve placed in me, and I promise to do everything in my power to ensure the continued success of Apex Investments."

The room erupted into polite applause and Jenny exchanged handshakes with several board members, trying her best to keep her exhiliharation from bursting out.

Clarisse stood from her seat, walking to meet Jenny. "Ladies and gentlemen," she took her daughter’s hand and led her to the head of the table, "I present to you, the new leader of Apex Investments."

And Jenny took her place at the head of the table to the applause of the board.

A new Queen has been crowned at Apex.
