Chapter 77 You will make a tasty snack, human!

Ethan had barely escaped the main area of chaos when he came to an abrupt halt, his breath catching in his throat as five demons stepped out from the shadows ahead, their grotesque forms illuminated by the faint light filtering through the trees.@@@@

Each of them was different—one was tall and wiry, its clawed fingers twitching with anticipation, while another loomed massive, its jagged horns nearly brushing the low-hanging branches. The others were equally monstrous, their red eyes gleaming with malice.

"Well, well," one of them hissed, its voice a guttural rasp that grated against Ethan's ears. "A little human, all alone. How fortunate for us."

Another demon chuckled darkly, its grin revealing rows of jagged teeth. "You've strayed far from your herd, little lamb. We were starting to think this hunt would be boring."

Ethan's grip on his dagger tightened, his knuckles white.

The tallest demon laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that made the air around it vibrate. "He is planning to fight us! You can't even match one of us, let alone all five. You'll make a tasty snack, human."

The demons began to fan out, surrounding him in a loose circle. Ethan's heart pounded, but he forced himself to stay calm. Then the first demon came rushing at him. However, before it could reach him, another vicious and grotesque creature appeared out of thin air, blocking the demon's path.

The demon froze mid-charge, its crimson eyes narrowing as it skidded to a halt. A low growl rumbled from its throat as it regarded the new arrival.

The creature that had appeared was monstrous in its own right—a hulking, insectoid beast with glistening, chitinous armor and mandibles that clicked ominously. Its multifaceted eyes gleamed with a cold, alien intelligence, and its sharp claws dug into the ground as it positioned itself protectively in front of Ethan.

Ethan took the dagger in his hands and prepared to do the work. "We'll see about that."

The demon was not wrong. His minions were struggling against the demon but he was hoping maybe he could overwhelm them with the numbers.

He dashed forward joining two insectoids fighting against a hulking demon with four arms, all four wielding axes.

His heart raced as he closed the distance, his dagger gripped tightly in his hand. The hulking demon with four arms let out a guttural roar, its jagged axes flashing as it swung wildly at the two insectoids attacking it.

Sparks flew as the demon's axes collided with the insectoids' chitinous armor, the force of the blows driving them back momentarily.

Ethan darted in from the side, using the insectoids' assault as a distraction. His blade flashed as he aimed for the demon's neck and plunged his dagger at the first chance he got.

But the next second, his face turned unsightly. His hand screamed in pain and his dagger bounced off the demon's thick, reinforced hide as if he had struck solid steel. The shock reverberated up Ethan's arm, nearly making him lose his grip on the weapon.

The hulking demon turned its gaze toward him, its crimson eyes filled with malice and a hint of amusement. "Pathetic," it growled, its voice like grinding stone. "Did you think your little toy could harm me?"

Ethan gritted his teeth, ignoring the pain as he stumbled back, barely dodging a wide swing of the demon's axe. The massive blade cut through the air with a menacing whoosh, embedding itself into the ground where Ethan had stood moments before.
