Chapter 437 Second Mandatory Quest

After looting and destroying the entire syndicate hideout, Shye now had a total of 21,000 gold coins—an utterly astronomical amount for a rookie.

In addition to acquiring a large number of coins, he also obtained one rare-tier skill book (which he has already given to Shirley), four uncommon-tier skill books (two of which he learned for himself), and over ten common-tier skill books that he temporarily stored in the system's inventory. After deciding that he would be staying at inns, Shye immediately searched the city for the best one, ultimately choosing an inn called the Gentle Pearl Inn which would set him back 700 silver coins per night.

The room he chose was a decent one, however, it wasn't on the level of the premium suite he always rented back at Balkrow.

While he was in the middle of looking for the special quest posted on the quest board, the voice of a middle-aged adventurer sounded from behind him.

Naturally, upon hearing such an arrogant tone, Shye would be annoyed. Still, he knew that he could not act recklessly in the main branch. At least not for now.

Thus, he only turned around after one deep breath.

"Yes, I am indeed Shye Crowley. Who might you guys be?"

"Hmmph! I'm Bernal Wild, a squadron leader of one of Raven's Blade's adventurer divisions, The Infernal Ravens.

I came here under the orders of our illustrious commander, the adamantite-ranked adventurer, Warren Glacier, to invite you to our division." Bernal said with a condescending tone, believing that as long as he didn't treat the so-called super-rookie as though he was something special, he would be able to secure him.

Furthermore, the status of their division wouldn't be tarnished by acting lowly in front of a mere rookie—the perfect fool-proof plan in Bernal's narrow mind.

Shye did not appreciate his approach.

However, he still responded politely, using a tone that was neither subservient nor arrogant.

"I see. Unfortunately, I'm not looking for a division right now so I would have to decline."

He then turned around and continued looking at the quest board.

"H-Hey! You bastard, you dare refuse the invitation of our squ–"

One of Bernal's men naturally spoke up for him, however, Bernal knew that mere words might not intimidate this so-called super-rookie.

Hence, he promptly stopped his underling from speaking, deciding to make a more aggressive approach—one that he believed would allow them to assert dominance over the rookie.

For a while, the small squadron of adventurers remained silent behind Shye, seemingly waiting for a specific action from him.
