Chapter 659: Creatures of Myth and Valenzia’s Four Strongest
Chapter 659: Creatures of Myth and Valenzia’s Four Strongest
Shye wanted to solve the rat problem as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, the paperwork for his designation as an official regional hero had already been completed, and the WAA had already issued his first quest.
He was to rendezvous with Valenzia’s four titled adventurers in the WAA Valenzia Headquarters and lead them on a mission to hunt one of the ten mythical creatures: The Phoenix.
The ten mythical creatures are believed to be more powerful than apex (S-ranked) creatures, as they can harness the forces of natural phenomena.
Whether this is true or not remains uncertain, as this marks the first time one of the mythical ten has stayed in one place, causing destruction and disrupting the ecosystem.
Even some of the legendary heroes of old never caught a glimpse of one in their entire lives.
Of course, in the past, missions have been assigned to regional heroes across various regions to hunt down other mythical creatures like the Kraken, Kun Peng, and Azure Dragon, due to the chaos and destruction they caused, even during their brief stays in peaceful lands.
Unfortunately, every mission ended in failure, as the creatures were constantly on the move.
Heroes from one region are not permitted to intervene in another, so the mission to hunt down the mentioned creatures was reassigned to the heroes of the new region whenever a mythical creature crossed a border.
Moreover, these creatures were rarely aggressive, and the WAA preferred not to hunt them if possible.
However, their ability to passively summon deadly storms, tsunamis, blizzards, and firestorms was so destructive that the WAA had no choice but to make every effort to slay them.
For the first time, the Phoenix unexpectedly chose to remain in a Death Zone within the Valenzia Region, though the area it settled in was extremely far from Valenzia City, near the border between Valenzia and Krebori.
It summoned terrifying firestorms in its wake, scorching the lush jungles atop the mountain where it chose to nest.
This disrupted the balance of power within the zone, causing the weaker (S-) ranked creatures to relentlessly hunt for food, fearing they would soon have none left.
Unfortunately, Shye was the only hero in the Valenzia Region.
As a result, despite being younger and less experienced than the four titled adventurers, he was assigned to lead the operation.
As for the other three, he was unfamiliar with their personalities, so he simply glanced over them before turning his attention to the young woman who appeared to be their handler for this mission.
Fortunately, one of them had a very bubbly personality: a middle-aged man with long, curly black hair and an impressive muscular physique, who appeared to be in his late thirties.
The man immediately walked closer to Shye and gave him a warm greeting.
"Hahaha! We finally meet, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn! It’s a pleasure to meet someone with your talents! I go by the name, or rather the title, of Radiant Sentinel of Valenzia, the shielder of the titled party." Radiant Sentinel introduced himself with a wide smile, instantly creating a positive impression on Shye.
’Hoh, so this guy is Radiant Sentinel, huh? Valenzia’s strongest shielder...’ Shye thought, returning the older man’s warm smile. "Likewise, Radiant Sentinel. I, Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn, am pleased to finally meet you."
"BAHAHAHAHA! The rumors say you’re quite the arrogant young one. Fortunately, I believe in not judging or forming twisted perceptions of someone until I meet them myself. And boy, was I right! BAHAHAHAHA! It looks like this mission will be a fun one..." Radiant Sentinel laughed, then turned to glance at the other two, who had initially looked at Shye with somewhat unfriendly expressions.
"So, what do you two think? Isn’t he a pleasant young lad?"
It turned out the other two were simply unsure about Shye’s personality, and considering his somewhat arrogant reputation, they were just guarding themselves, along with their pride and egos, which explained their cold demeanor.
Naturally, these titled adventurers were also prideful individuals.
After all, even though they weren’t heroes, they were the four strongest in Valenzia prior to Shye’s meteoric rise.
It was impossible for them not to harbor a sense of pride and arrogance, even if they weren’t scoundrels.
If they had greeted Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn first and he turned out to be a scumbag who looked down on them, they would end up looking like fools.
This is why they initially gave him the cold shoulder.
Frozen End’s indifference to whether they befriended him, as long as their disagreements didn’t affect the mission, didn’t help matters either.
Luckily, Radiant Sentinel was there to test the waters.
Now that Shye proved not to be the bastard they had perceived him to be, the other two could finally smile at him, shaking his hand as they introduced themselves—a sign of respect for the first-ever hero of their region.
