Chapter 718 A Reunion Between Old Friends
Chapter 718 A Reunion Between Old Friends
"Lord Dweezel, what are your orders?" the Hawkin Guard Commander inquired. "Should we activate our emergency talismans and retreat?"
"No, prioritize helping the youngsters first. If things escalate, then we'll retreat," Dweezel replied, swiftly putting on his Golden Sun Armor Set, even though it no longer fit his figure as it once had.
Of course, Dweezel wasn't particularly concerned about the fate of the youngsters; he was simply acting to protect his reputation.
Regardless of his intentions, Dweezel's sudden lunge at a terrorist, taking him down with a single strike, inspired the youngsters to cheer. Enjoy new tales from My Virtual Library Empire
Their spirits soared at the sight and prospect of fighting alongside the legendary hero.
As a result, for a brief period, the youth representatives and the heroes fought valiantly, momentarily stalling the terrorists' advance despite being at a significant numerical disadvantage.
Unfortunately, morale could only take one so far.
After five minutes, the situation deteriorated again, and the youth representatives began losing their lives once more.
Soon, the crisis deepened for both the heroes and the youth representatives.
Only three Kreborian youths remained, while the Raumanns, Phaskaldans, and Hakk'Shattans were reduced to five survivors, with the renowned Harrison Potterson counted among the fallen.
It was a black day for the lower-ranked regions.
Meanwhile, the Fanfirians, Deltrans, and Yon Augennians were holding up relatively well, with only one Fanfirian youngster losing his life.
However, Orca, Shin, Claudius, and Glenn were in a precarious situation, where even a single mistake could cost them their lives.
Even Aziel was only managing slightly better.
This was where the Valenzians differed.
Shirley and her team's synergy, honed from working together, far surpassed even that of the Yon Augennian youth representatives.
As a result, they sustained only minor bruises and light injuries, with Wendy consistently healing them back to full health whenever the opportunity arose.
It seemed the Valenzians could keep this up indefinitely.
However, this was far from the truth.
They were only able to hold the terrorists back because other regions were also under attack.
If the terrorists were to focus solely on them, they would be easily overwhelmed.
Still, Shye knew that Shirley and the others could hold their ground for a while, so his focus wasn't on them.
Instead, he concentrated on eliminating terrorists from other groups while merely incapacitating those from Hadean Varsa.
Nonetheless, he was doing a good job of pretending to be a true hero.
No one would suspect that he was affiliated with Hadean Varsa.
"Great job, Shye!" a familiar voice suddenly called out from behind him as he landed in front of the Valenzian table after unleashing his [Ninth Devastation Ray].
Shye quickly turned around, his eyes almost bulging out of their sockets.
"SIEG! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?! DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO CRUSH YOUR TALISMAN?!" he shouted in a rage, not out of concern for Siegfried's well-being, but because he feared that Siegfried's actions might jeopardize his plan.
"Haha... forgive me. I just couldn't bring myself to leave you here alone. I've known you for a long time, and I'm sure you'd stay to fight," Siegfried replied awkwardly with a laugh. "Don't worry about me too much; I'll do my best to survive until you pull off another miracle, just like you always do."
The young man then flashed a smile at him, one filled with sincerity and trust.
At that moment, Shye's anger faded away; he couldn't stay mad at Siegfried after hearing his reason for remaining.
While it was also possible his friend was merely pretending or lying, it didn't seem likely—his smile was just too innocent and genuine.
Besides, there was nothing else he could do now that his plan to send both Kiin and Siegfried to a special prison at the Hadean Varsa Headquarters had failed.
He might as well choose to trust Siegfried for the time being and fight alongside him to improve their chances of survival.
After all, his goal was to stay alive without leaving the venue.
Shye didn't understand Sanada's motive for making him stay.
However, he couldn't afford to disobey, especially when it meant gaining a plus five to all attributes instead of a minus forty.
And so, he fought alongside Siegfried for the next few seconds while keeping an eye on him.
His combat style was just as Shye had always remembered.
Due to Dweezel's morale booster, the heroes started to push the terrorists back, though it was unlikely to remain this way in the next few minutes.
Nonetheless, the casualties were already far greater than what the terrorist groups had anticipated.
They needed to finish things quickly.
Fortunately, an opportunity to do just that presented itself when a loud bang echoed from the ceiling, creating a massive hole and allowing the gentle silver rays of the two moons to illuminate the grand halls.
A raspy laugh as sinister and old as that of an ancient demon then sounded.
"Hahahaha! We finally meet again, Dweezel, you scheming bastard. You won't escape me this time."
Upon hearing the voice, Dweezel Hawkins turned to face its source, his gaze as frigid as a winter night's blizzard.
"Sanada..."
