Chapter 777: Emergency Meeting
Chapter 777: Emergency Meeting
"YOU DAMN WENCH!!"
Second Hawkling’s furious voice sounded from behind Elysia, allowing her to notice the incoming attack.
However, she was just too spent, and it was difficult for her to even raise her hands quickly enough to cast another spell.
Wendy was in the same position.
The two spellcasters had been relentlessly fending off the assassins’ attacks for the past fifteen minutes, maintaining peak focus the entire time.
It was only natural for fatigue to set in, especially given their relatively low stamina attributes.
Furthermore, while various potions allowed them to recover some mana, the unnatural sensation of their natural mana regeneration being suppressed felt disorienting, causing their heads to ache more quickly than usual.
The red-haired assassin leader’s attack was just too sudden and too fast, and since the two were already in poor condition, they were caught off-guard by the furious attack.
"Elysia!" Wendy exclaimed worriedly.
Luckily, although there was no way for the mage heroine to get out of the dagger’s way unscathed, she was at least able to shift her body, causing Second Hawkling’s dagger to plunge deep into her left shoulder.
Painful but nonlethal.
Elysia then grabbed the red-haired assassin leader’s wrist, aiming her staff at his face.
"Scourge, die!" she exclaimed.
Unfortunately, she failed to predict Second Hawkling’s true aim.
As an extremely cautious person, despite being overwhelmed by rage due to losing more than half of his personal unit, the red-haired hawkling always prioritized his main objectives.
Which, in this case, was to destroy the device that allowed both spellcasters to cast spells despite being caught in a mana-jamming field.
While he had a good chance of stabbing Elysia to death in a single attack, he didn’t bank on that.
Instead, he chose to go with the safer option, which was to completely remove the two spellcasters’ ability to resist.
It was rather unfortunate that Elysia failed to notice Second Hawkling’s follow-up strike, which struck the anti-mana jamming device squarely.
They would undoubtedly be dead right now if it was them.
Realizing this, their gazes toward their leader shifted to one of sheer disbelief and reverence.
Shye’s very presence before them was yet another miracle to add to the growing list of extraordinary feats he had accomplished.
Seeing their reactions, Shye grinned in an unruly manner, oozing confidence from every pore of his body.
"That’s right. Even Dweezel Hawkins himself couldn’t kill me. For now, leave everything behind and follow me, I shall lead you guys to victory." He exclaimed, prompting his three-hundred-strong personal army to cheer wildly.
Indeed, with Shye Crowley of the Black Dawn at the helm of their unit, what did they have to fear?
Even if they lost their lives, they could trust that their leader would ensure their sacrifices were not in vain.
Watching their reactions, Shye smiled, happy that he managed to cheer his men up despite the day of their exit looming closer.
It wouldn’t be good for the morale of the entire unit if some of them wavered and suddenly backed out.
"Alright, since everyone already has their Hadean Varsa Crests, finish up any remaining tasks and activate your recall skills within the next three days. Let’s all gather at the headquarters afterward. I’ll notify the others. That’s all, you’re dismissed."
After the brief and unexpected emergency meeting, everyone went their separate ways as usual.
They exited the building at staggered intervals, carrying newly purchased items to blend in and maintain a sense of normalcy, ensuring nothing about the establishment seemed unusual.
They then went their separate ways, preparing everything they needed.
A few of the less courageous ones among them directly teleported back to the main headquarters, fearing that the longer they stayed, the more they would expose themselves to unnecessary risks.
As for Shye and Shirley, they quickly returned to their house, gathered their clothes, stocked up on food and water, and then headed out to buy various training tonics and skill books from the shops.
They even took the time to order a lot of ready-to-eat seafood and steak meals from their favorite restaurants, storing them all in the system’s inventory to ensure that they wouldn’t spoil.
In the future, it would be hard—if not outright impossible—to do such things.
Nevertheless, Shye had saved a third of his coin reserves for unexpected emergencies.
He was doing all of this because he believed Dweezel had already known his true identity for some time.
In reality, though, the old snake was just on the verge of uncovering the truth.
