Chapter 8 Caravans and Demons
Chapter 8 Caravans and Demons
After parting ways with Frilian's team, Lynn walked alone on the forest road.
The cold wind was like a knife, stinging my face.
The air in the northern plateau is thin and dry, and every breath makes my lungs feel uncomfortable.
His current destination is Grayate, the next town marked on the virtual blue map to have the statue of the Southern Warrior.
That place is at least a week's journey from here.
That said, traversing this monster-infested forest alone is quite a challenge.
Lynn tightened her thin clothes and walked with a steady gait.
His innate resilience allows him to withstand harsh environments far beyond what most people can handle, but the cold is still unbearable.
Just then, the sound of horses' hooves and wheels rolling came from behind.
Lynn turned around and saw a small caravan of three carriages slowly approaching.
From the lead carriage, a shrewd-looking middle-aged man wrapped in a thick fur coat leaned out and shouted loudly, "Hey! Young man in front, stop!"
Lynn stopped and watched as the caravan came to a stop in front of him.
"Young man, are you out here all alone? Are you out of your mind?"
The middle-aged man jumped off the carriage, a look of surprise on his face. "This area has been rather unsafe lately; people have been going missing frequently."
Lynn looked him over and calmly replied, "I am a traveler, on my way to Glayat."
"Going to Glayat? That's convenient, since it's on the way!"
The man smiled warmly. "I'm the owner of this caravan. Just call me Bart. If you don't mind, hop on our vehicle. It'll be safer for us to travel together."
As Bart spoke, he pointed to the three people in another carriage behind him: "This time I spent a lot of money to hire three powerful adventurers as bodyguards. Ordinary monsters are no match for them."
Lynn looked in the direction he was pointing.
A burly warrior wielding a giant axe was scrutinizing him with a critical eye.
Beside the warrior sat a young-looking purple-haired girl, holding a simple wooden staff, who was also curiously blinking her big eyes at him.
On the other side of the girl was a woman dressed in a white priest's robe. She had long silver hair, exquisite features, but a cold expression and never once looked at Lynn.
"Thank you very much."
Lynn felt it was on her way and agreed with a smile.
He needs to conserve his energy now to prepare for any unexpected events that may occur.
"Haha, don't mention it! It's only right to help each other when traveling!"
Bart laughed heartily and led Lynn to the carriage where the adventurers were. "You can sit with Saree and the others."
Lynn jumped into the carriage and sat down in a corner.
The warrior named Saree shifted his body to the side and said, "A skinny guy like you dares to wander around here alone? You're practically delivering snacks to the monsters."
The purple-haired girl greeted them with a smile, "Hello, my name is Anna, and I'm a level two mage. This is Sarre, a very strong warrior. And this lady next to me is Violet, also a level two mage, who also knows monk magic. Sarre just talks like that, so please don't mind."
Lynn nodded to her: "My name is Lynn."
The beautiful mage named Violet glanced at him out of the corner of her eye before closing her eyes again.
The carriage slowly started moving again.
"Mr. Lynn,"
Anna leaned closer, her big eyes full of curiosity. "The northern plateau is extremely dangerous. Even experienced adventurer teams dare not be careless. Why did you come alone?"
"My destination was different from the rest of the team, so we separated along the way."
Lynn answered.
"Hmph, even if you've separated, you shouldn't be traveling alone. You really aren't afraid of death."
Sarre wiped the huge battle axe. "Kid, take my advice. When you get to the next town, hire some teammates as soon as possible. With your small frame, you'll become monster excrement sooner or later in a place like this."
Lynn could tell that Saree was all bark and no bite, so he smiled and nodded, then immediately turned his gaze to the depths of the forest.
You can vaguely sense that there is something there, but future vision doesn't work, so you can't predict what will happen next.
"What's wrong, Mr. Lynn?"
The observant Anna noticed his expression change in an instant.
"It's nothing."
Lynn shook her head.
Seeing that he didn't want to say more, Anna stopped asking and instead started talking to Sarre about monsters.
"I've heard there's a very cunning demon in this area recently."
Anna's tone was grave. "She seems to be very skilled with magic; several caravans have already been wiped out by her."
Sarre said nonchalantly, "Who cares about demons? Once I get close, I can chop her head off with one axe!"
Anna said worriedly, "But I've heard that her magic is very powerful, and no one can get close to her. If only Sister Liel, a first-level mage, could come."
"Don't worry, with me here, you're absolutely safe."
Saree patted his muscular chest, brimming with confidence.
The caravan traveled through the forest for about half an hour.
The surrounding air seemed to grow colder, and the sky gradually darkened.
Violet, who had been resting with her eyes closed, suddenly opened them, a hint of wariness flashing in her azure eyes, and said, "There's a magical fluctuation."
Almost the instant she finished speaking!
boom!!!
With a loud bang, the carriage at the front of the caravan, along with the horses pulling it, was instantly pinned to the ground by a huge black spear that fell from the sky!
"Enemy attack!"
Saree's expression changed, and he immediately grabbed his battle axe, jumped off the carriage, and assumed a defensive stance.
Anna tensed up instantly, gripping her staff tightly and beginning to chant.
Mr. Bart was so frightened that his face turned pale, and he hid behind the wheel, trembling.
Lynn also jumped out of the car, her gaze cold as she looked ahead.
On the snow-covered slope not far away, a figure slowly appeared.
That's a woman.
She had eerie long purple hair, a pair of curved horns on her head, and wore relatively revealing black clothing.
Demons!
Moreover, this magical fluctuation... is already approaching that of a Great Demon.
"Oh my, what a coincidence!"
The female demon licked her lips.
"Everyone should refrain from making any rash moves."
Lynn's strength at this moment was at most equivalent to three early-stage Tomato Warriors. In front of the demons, he could only ensure that he would not be harmed.
But if you find the right opportunity, you can still take down your opponent.
"Damn demons!"
Saree completely ignored Lynn's words. His leg muscles bulged, and he shot forward like a cannonball, yelling, "Die!"
With a whooshing sound as the giant axe in his hand tore through the air, he cleaved down fiercely towards the female demon's head.
Faced with this powerful blow, the female demon merely smiled contemptuously, then slowly raised a finger.
A beam of black light, condensed to its fullest extent, burst forth from her fingertips.
The beam of light was moving so fast that it was impossible for the naked eye to see it!
puff!
Sarre's charge came to an abrupt halt; he remained frozen in mid-air, still swinging his axe.
A gaping hole appeared in his right shoulder, and blood instantly stained his armor.
