Chapter 106 Durmstrang's Christmas
Merry Christmas, Frederick!
"You too, Hans!"
Even in Durmstrang, the atmosphere was exceptionally lively as Christmas approached. Students, bundled up in thick red wool coats, stood in the corridors, chatting happily and looking with great interest at the decorated Christmas trees.
The young students hugged each other and then exchanged gifts.
The festive atmosphere seemed to be everywhere except for Durmstrang's Astronomical Tower—a hooded girl sat on the ground, writing incessantly on a piece of parchment with a quill pen in her hand.
"Next—next is energy storage—" she muttered to herself as she wrote, then suddenly paused and picked up another small notebook to look at it again and again.
"Clatter".
As the girl was engrossed in her research, the door to the astronomical tower was gently opened, and a helpless-looking Müller walked in.
"Pfft." Seeing that the girl still didn't react, he raised an eyebrow and carefully stepped over the various scrolls and test tubes rolling on the ground, while casually picking up a cup of coffee that had long since gone cold from the table.
"If we use Veela blood again," the girl said, completely unaware of his approach. She pursed her lips, raised her finger, and gently bit it. A stream of blood gushed out and slowly dripped into the test tube.
"Next, add fifty milliliters—"
"Cough cough cough."
"Ah! Yi!" The girl was startled by Muller's sudden cough. She screamed instinctively and jumped up from the ground, crashing headfirst into the telescope of the astronomical tower.
"what!"
Looking at the girl who was now crouching down, clutching her head, Muller raised an eyebrow and said, "So, Miss Hamilton is planning to spend Christmas here?"
"Mumüller." The girl pursed her lips and slightly raised her head, her blue eyes darting away as she looked down at her toes.
"I—I should be here—"
Having received the answer he expected, Muller shrugged and said, "I probably won't be here for Christmas."
"Ah—" The girl pursed her lips as if she wanted to say something, but hesitated and didn't speak.
"Aren't you curious where I'm going?" Muller noticed her thoughts and casually replied, "I'll probably go home."
"My father has been busy with Lord Grindelwald's affairs lately." He paused, then picked up a magic circle from the table. "What's this?"
"This is an energy storage magic array, which can be used to charge other magic arrays—and it can also..." Seeing that the girl seemed about to keep talking, Muller quickly coughed to interrupt her.
"Ah, hug...hug...am I...?"
"It's nothing," Muller said reassuringly, pursing his lips. "I just have some other things I'd like to talk to you about."
"Other things?" The girl looked at Mueller with some confusion and asked, "Is it a magic circle?"
"Ah—no." Muller smiled awkwardly. "It's about Christmas."
Seeing the girl's even more confused expression, Muller coughed and said, "If you're free for Christmas, perhaps you could come to my house as a guest."
"To be a guest?!" The girl was so surprised that she leaned back and went from squatting on the ground to sitting on it.
"No, I, Muller—you know I'm scared—" she said, waving her hands with trembling hands, her voice trembling.
Seeing her terrified expression, Muller couldn't help but show a hint of disappointment.
"My father shouldn't be because of—"
"That's not what I meant—" The girl looked at the tips of her shoes, twirling a strand of her hair, and said, "It's just that I... I'm a little scared! And there's the matter of graduation." "Graduation?" Mueller paused, then asked, "Aren't you only in fourth grade?"
"Yes—" the girl said a little embarrassedly, "Principal Goldlin said I could—could graduate early." "Why?" Muller asked subconsciously, "Even if you won the school's dueling tournament twice—"
"Wait, that's what she said—" Muller snapped out of his reverie and instinctively asked, "Do you also want to graduate early?"
"Um...um." The girl nodded cautiously, then glanced at Mueller somewhat timidly: "I—I want to graduate early."
"Because—because I don't want to stay here anymore." The girl took a deep breath, as if revealing something she had been thinking. "I want to travel and study magic arrays instead of staying here."
"I understand." Muller nodded knowingly. "This might be a good thing for you—so you're preparing for exams at Christmas, right?"
"Hmm—" The girl nodded gently: "I need to pass—I need to pass the OWS exam—"
"You'll definitely be fine," Muller chuckled. "This shouldn't be a problem for you, right?"
"Don't say that," the girl quickly shook her head, "My potions skills—and astronomy aren't very good—..."
"I may need to—I need to intensify my studies."
Her words didn't elicit any further response from Muller. He simply shrugged, walked up to the girl, and extended his hand, saying, "This should be much easier for you than learning the Silent Spell, right?"
"That's great news," he said, nodding slightly. "If you graduate this semester, we'll be in the same graduating class."
"Why is this a good thing?" The girl reached out her hand slightly, but Muller pulled her up.
"That way we can travel together." Muller shrugged and leaned against the wall. "I was originally planning to go straight to work at the Ministry of Magic after graduation."
"Now it seems like traveling with you might be a good idea."
"Didn't you say you were going to find the magic circle?"
Muller's words surprised the girl slightly. She said with a hint of joy, "That—that's great!"
"But you—" But then she turned her head and remembered what Muller had said before: "Weren't you going to—go with Grindelwald—?"
"I did have that idea," Muller said with a shrug, "but after careful consideration, I feel that traveling with you is very necessary."
"Wouldn't that bring you into Lord Grindelwald's business as well?" His seemingly joking words made the girl purse her lips quite seriously.
"I—I will—I will consider it."
"It's just a joke," Müller had to say. "You know, the dry humor of us Germans."
"But...but Durmstrang is cold enough."
"That's true." Muller smiled slightly and walked to the door. "By the way, what would you like to eat tomorrow? I can bring it for you."
"Ah—a sandwich will do, wait," the girl suddenly asked, as if remembering something, "tomorrow..."
"—Isn't it Christmas Eve?"
"you--"
"After thinking about it, going home doesn't seem very interesting." Muller shrugged. "I'd rather invest more in you; my potions and astronomy are pretty good."
"I'll make you owe me a favor, so you can join the UMNO party." With that, he turned and left.
Watching his departing figure, the girl pursed her lips and whispered, "I—I already owe you so much..."
But it would be great if Muller came tomorrow too. He could tutor me in Potions and Astronomy.
Unfortunately, not every girl's wish can come true, and she didn't see Muller the next day.
Naturally, the sandwich didn't arrive.
