Chapter 26 The Fool
Chapter 26 The Fool
Rosen could obviously tell what Klein was thinking, and he smiled at it. After Klein calmed down, he said, "Speaking of which, if you were to become an Extraordinary One someday, Klein, do you have a preferred path?"
When Klein last came to this era, Rosen had casually introduced him to the 22 Paths of God. Although he didn't go into detail about the abilities of each sequence, he did say that each path was roughly in the direction of its abilities.
"Me?" Klein paused, clearly deep in thought, before finally saying after several seconds, "If I had to choose, I might choose the tyrant's path?"
Rosen's expression flickered for a moment, then he asked curiously, "Why?"
"Perhaps it's because of a fear of insufficient firepower?" Klein smiled somewhat embarrassedly. Just as every rabbit has a heart full of joy, Klein naturally had a fighting spirit deep down, rather than becoming a weak support.
The Tyrant Path, also known as the Storm Path, is undoubtedly one of the favorites of Tatakai players.
Rosen paused for a second, then understood. In the original story, Klein's choice to become a fortune teller, besides being a matter of fate, was also related to his desire to explore the secrets of time travel and find a way home.
But putting all that aside, Klein has always been a person with a strong sense of martial virtue, which can be seen from his ability to wreak havoc while serving as a support role. In the early stages, the fortune teller was never a combat role, but rather a support role. However, this obviously did not prevent Mr. Fool from having a great time in battle.
Even when Klein was just an ordinary person, his eccentricities were already evident, such as carrying a pistol with him and buying a cane to consider how to fight with it.
Since Klein doesn't need to explore the secrets of crossing the river or find a way home, he would naturally prefer the Storm Path over a fragile support like the Diviner.
"What's wrong? Is it not allowed?" Klein looked at Rosen's silent appearance and wondered to himself, so he asked.
"Well, to be honest, I don't really recommend you take the Storm Path." Rosen didn't hide his attitude and said, "Although the Storm Pigeon is quite fun to fight, taking this path will make you more and more irritable, and it's actually not suitable for people with brains. It's a bit of a waste for you to take this path."
Rosen was speaking the truth. As you can see from the original work, while the Storm path is exciting to fight, it is not without its flaws. Although judging from Alger's case, taking this path should not lower his IQ, it will most likely affect his emotions, so it is not really suitable for Klein.
After all, Klein has always been the kind of player who uses combat intelligence. It would be a waste of his talent to try to be as reckless as Storm Pigeon.
"If you're really craving the Storm Path ability, I actually think it would be more appropriate to get a couple of Storm Path artifacts," Rosen thought for a moment and then added.
Klein looked thoughtful. Compared to his own limited understanding of extraordinary methods, he naturally trusted the advice of a professional like Rosen more.
So after a moment's hesitation, Klein asked curiously, "Then, Rosen, which path do you think I should take?"
"I think..." Rosen paused, then suddenly produced a tarot deck as if by magic, saying, "Why not leave it all to fate?"
"Fate?" Klein asked, somewhat puzzled and curious.
"It's quite a coincidence, actually. Almost all 22 paths in this world correspond to the Major Arcana cards in the Tarot." As Rosen spoke, he drew out twenty-two Major Arcana cards and looked at Klein, saying:
"I'm actually not sure which path to recommend to you, so how about we try and see which path you seem to have a better connection with?"
Rosen could certainly recommend that Klein take the path of a diviner, which is probably the most suitable path for him in some respects.
But Rosen suddenly wanted to try and see which card Klein would draw if he really left everything to fate.
"What a coincidence..." Klein clicked his tongue slightly. Although he thought Rosen's method was a bit reckless, considering that there really were extraordinary things in this world, he decided to give it a try.
So, twenty-two tarot cards were laid out on the floor. Facing these cards, all with identical backs, Klein thought for a few seconds and then chose one.
Cotton doll's body wasn't suitable for flipping cards, so this step was naturally done by Rosen. After Rosen flipped the card over, the two immediately saw the picture drawn on it—a traveler with a small dog.
Or, to put it in a more familiar way, it's a Fool's card.
"...It really is fate." Rosen looked at the Fool card, not so much surprised as somewhat sentimental.
The reason he just chose to leave everything to fate was perhaps partly due to a moment of weakness. Becoming the Fool or the Lord of Mysteries was never entirely a good thing for Klein. If he had chosen a different path, Klein might have only become an ordinary Extraordinary, but that might not have been so bad.
"...But deep down you also know that some destinies are inevitable, how hypocritical." Rosen chuckled self-deprecatingly to himself, laughing at his own hypocrisy.
But he has always been like this, and will always be like this.
"What path does the Fool card represent?" Klein, of course, had no idea what Rosen was thinking, but asked out of curiosity.
"It represents a diviner." Rosen snapped out of his reverie and looked at Klein to explain, "It's a very special path. I don't know if it's a good choice for you, but you certainly have a deep connection with it."
Klein only vaguely understood what Rosen was saying. He could sense a complex emotion in Rosen's voice that he couldn't quite decipher, which made him hesitate for a moment before trying to say something to ease the tension: "I'm not necessarily going to become an Extraordinary, so no matter how special this path is, it doesn't really matter, right..."
"...Perhaps!" Rosen smiled, neither confirming nor denying Klein's words.
Just then, the sound of footsteps, neither hurried nor slow, but extremely imposing, approached.
The Red Angel appeared not far from where the two were hiding. With his arms crossed, he was not tall but had an imposing presence. Looking at the two, he smiled freely and said, "Have you two finished talking? If you have, the game should continue."
"...Hiss!" Rosen gasped, jumped up from the ground, and picked up the cotton doll, placing it on his shoulder.
Then, accompanied by a thunderous crash of flames, an "escape" began.
When Sasriel found the sun god who was away and returned with him, what he saw was a palace that looked like it had been burned by a fire, Medici who looked refreshed but had done something wrong, and three cubs huddled together, all with varying degrees of hair damage.
Sasriel fell silent.
