Chapter 19 Reflection in the Lake
Chapter 19 Reflection in the Lake
Just as the giant wolf was about to crash into Karl, Suren had no time to pay attention to the giant wolf, because the little wolf also pounced on Karl.
Suren's experience allowed him to quickly make a judgment: he had to deal with the small wolf first before he could better deal with the giant wolf.
He raised his gun, aimed, and executed the maneuver in one swift motion.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Suren fired three shots in quick succession, the bullets tearing through the air and accurately piercing the wolf cub's body.
The first shot hit its side, causing it to lurch to the side as it charged, and blood splattered on its fur.
The second shot pierced its spine, causing its front legs to buckle and its entire body to tumble forward, leaving a shallow furrow in the ground.
With the third shot, Suren fired without hesitation. The bullet pierced the back of the wolf's head. Before it could even let out a wail, it twitched once and then remained motionless.
On the other side, as the giant wolf charged, Karl was sent flying backward. He spat out a mouthful of blood and his back slammed into a tree, causing him to lose consciousness.
Suren was worried about Karl's safety and was about to throw the mirror from her waist when Professor De Went made his move.
He extended his right hand, flicking a gold pound with his thumb. The pound tumbled in the air before he pointed it at the giant wolf: "I'll pay the price of being unable to use 'Alchemy' and the 'Equivalent Exchange Concept Layer' for the next three days in exchange for one hour of access to the ability you just used!"
An abstract symbol of a balance scale appeared in the air, and a pale blue light moved between the giant wolf and the professor. The gold pound was swallowed by the blue light and disappeared instantly.
At the same time, the professor knelt on one knee, his hands touching the ground. Blue light, like bolts of lightning, stretched from in front of the professor all the way to the giant wolf's feet. The ground suddenly collapsed, forming a large pit, and the giant wolf was trapped inside.
Suren gave Professor Deventer a deep look, then without pausing, strode over to Karl, took out the last two alchemical bombs, injected them with "Source Knowledge," and threw them directly into the pit.
After two loud bangs, Suren was about to peek down.
"Awoo!"
A howl rang out! Due to the bomb, the soil on both sides of the shallow pit collapsed, giving the giant wolf a place to stand.
It kicked off the bottom of the pit with its hind legs and slammed its front paws against the wall, using the power of its limbs to propel its entire body to the right.
Just as its limbs touched the wall on the other side, it suddenly pushed off again, alternating left and right, its whole body drawing a Z-shaped trajectory, and in the blink of an eye it leaped up.
Its fur was now dull and lifeless, covered in dirt and ash, with several obvious wounds, making it look disheveled, but its scarlet eyes shone with a terrifying light!
Suren pulled out his gun and fired the last three bullets at the giant wolf. He knew that ordinary silver bullets would have no effect on this monster; his goal was to provoke it.
"I'll distract this giant wolf, but Cole will definitely follow. Professor, you have to stop him; that's the key to our victory!" Professor Devont heard a series of urgent words. He turned his head, but all he could see was Suren's back.
Enraged by the three bullets, the giant wolf has already chased after Suren.
Because of the continuous attacks, its speed has slowed down significantly. Its once agile four legs are now somewhat stiff as it runs, and its wounds open and close with each run, with drops of blood falling onto the grass. Even so, it is still much faster than Suren.
Professor Devonte hesitated as he watched the backs of the man and the wolf. Just then, he noticed a figure flash past behind the rock.
Professor Devon was secretly alarmed. He couldn't understand why Cole didn't attack him directly, but instead chased after Suren, whose chances of death were extremely high.
Without a second thought, he decided to trust Suren. He raised his right hand, and a chain appeared out of thin air—the power of the giant wolf he had just acquired.
The chain hurtled towards Cole, who, paralyzed by its force, lost his balance and fell to the ground. Cole muttered a curse, "Damn professor, it starts with you!"
On the other side, the distance between Suren and the giant wolf was rapidly decreasing: five meters, three meters, two meters.
Just as the giant wolf was about to bite the back of Suren's neck, Suren suddenly stopped with his feet, twisted his body abruptly, and dodged to the side, almost touching the giant wolf.
Before the giant wolf could react, its massive body, propelled by inertia, continued its charge forward. Its front paws pawed twice in vain before it plunged into the lake with a "plop."
This is Suren's intention. This lake used to be the giant serpent's territory, but now the entire lake is Suren's home ground!
At this moment, Suren's "Source of Knowledge" frantically poured into the entire lake surface, and [Mirror Demon Projection] was activated!
After advancing to "The Seer of Reason," this ability became even more terrifying than before, and the "Mirror Demon" projected by Suren became increasingly closer to the original.
If an enemy appears within the mirror's reflection range for five seconds, they will be pulled into the mirror, and the projection will also have a powerful suppression and binding effect during this period.
The entire lake surface emitted a blue light, and the giant wolf in the lake struggled incessantly with its limbs, while eerily dark shadows appeared beside it.
The shadowy figures stretched out pairs of almost transparent, pale hands and gripped the giant wolf tightly.
"Awooo..." The giant wolf's eyes were filled with fear, and it let out a terrified howl. Its body gradually stiffened, and its huge body was pulled by countless pale hands.
Suren coldly watched this horrific scene unfold. Finally, the time was up.
Those hands suddenly pulled back, swallowing the giant wolf's massive body. Its whimpering stopped abruptly, and it disappeared into the dark lake.
The lake surface trembled violently a few times, then slowly returned to calm. A gentle breeze swept by, as if nothing had happened, as if it were all an illusion.
As Suren looked at the Book of Secrets, whose corner of his mind was once again covered by tentacles, he knew clearly that everything that had just happened was not an illusion.
He let out a sigh of relief, regretting the waste of the giant wolf's materials, but he was currently unable to kill a Dominator Demon head-on.
Suren noticed that there seemed to be a new entry inside the Book of Secrets, but now was not the time to check it.
He looked back in the direction he had come from; it was time to go and greet "traitor" Cole.
Just as the giant wolf was chasing Suren, Cole, bound by chains, reached for his silver gun with extreme slowness.
Devonte rushed to Karl's side, drew the revolver from his waist, and gripped the handle; it was surprisingly heavy.
He clumsily tried to pull the hammer off, and it took him two tries to finally manage to pull it off.
He raised his gun and pulled the trigger in Cole's direction.
"Bang!"
A tremendous sound exploded in his ears, making his eardrums ring, but the bullet had flown off somewhere.
He fired another shot.
"Bang."
Still no hit. Professor De Went gritted his teeth. The excessive consumption of "Source Knowledge" had left him somewhat exhausted, and his hand holding the gun was shaking slightly. He couldn't help but think of how Suren shot, so accurate and fast. He really didn't know how he did it.
Professor Devont, gun in hand, ran frantically toward Cole, intending to get closer before firing.
Meanwhile, Cole, who was lying on the ground, had a blue light emanating from his left hand, and silver threads were tracing patterns in the air.
Devonte staggered forward when a strong gust of wind swept across the ground, lifting an inconspicuous pebble which landed squarely at his feet.
Devont felt a sharp pain in his foot and involuntarily fell forward. He hurriedly used his hand to block the impact, thus avoiding hitting his head.
Just as Devonte was hurriedly preparing to get up, a figure stood before him—it was Cole, who had been freed from paralysis.
"What a pity, Professor. If your marksmanship were just a little better, I might be dead here." Cole wore his signature flamboyant smile as he lightly pulled the trigger. "Well then, goodbye, Professor."
