166-16 Mysterious Visitor
Mo Bei stood on the rooftop, watching the passing cars. The song "All the Way North" played nearby. He couldn't help but lean against the railing and let out a long sigh: "In this scene, how I long to compose a poem, leaning on the railing and letting out a long sigh! On this rooftop, life has been nothing but drifting aimlessly! No ambition to pursue anything! Gazing at the vast, flowing plains." It seems his skills have improved, but surprisingly, he stopped, thinking about how to continue composing.
Just then, out of the corner of his eye, Mo Bei noticed a car speeding along the road (not exceeding the speed limit). This suddenly seemed to fit perfectly with the song "All the Way North," was it intentional?
Mo Bei looked closely and saw that it was an "old man" with a woman in the passenger seat: they were the two from the previous chapter.
The woman rested her elbow on the car window, sipping her nearly overflowing Assam milk tea. The "old man," wearing sunglasses and a military overcoat, held the steering wheel with his left hand and adjusted his glasses with his right.
Mo Bei's eyes lit up when she saw it: "Wow, so handsome! So cool! It looks like the grandma wanted to go out, and the grandpa drove her. What a loving couple, such an enviable love." After saying that, Mo Bei picked up a Fanta from the side and took a sip.
The car drove towards Mo Bei's villa, drifting into the garage with a swerve, white vapor emanating from the wheels to create an atmosphere. Mo Bei, seeing it was a guest, put down the Fanta and quickly went downstairs to greet him.
As soon as Mo Bei came downstairs, she saw the old man get out of his car, the headlights on, his military coat fluttering in the wind. The old woman also got out, surrounded by smoke. They greeted Mo Bei, and the old woman asked the old man, "Shi Ao, I remember Xiao Tian didn't seem to have hired a nanny, did he? He didn't need one." The old man named Shi Ao replied, "He seems like Xiao Tian." He then asked Mo Bei, "Are you Mo Tian's friend?" Mo Bei said, "Me? I guess so, I'm more like a nanny now." Shi Ao said, "Then do you know what happened to You Lan?" Mo Bei felt a little guilty, "She died giving birth." Shi Ao was shocked, "Really? How is that possible? With modern medical technology, can someone still die like that?" The old woman said, "Take me to see the baby." Mo Bei nodded, and Shi Ao, after recovering, said, "Qing Qing, wait for me!"
Mei Qing and Mo Shi'ao looked at their grandson and granddaughter, feeling a strong urge to hold them, but they chose to believe in their son's invention—this cradle.
Inside the house, Mo Shi'ao realized he hadn't been to his son's house in a long time. They only kept in touch briefly via phone, and he'd been too engrossed in his shooting game. Mei Qing, meanwhile, looked at the two babies. She considered taking out her keychain to play with her granddaughter, but then decided against it and followed Mo Shi'ao around the house, watching...
Upon closer inspection, the room is quite empty; the few pieces of furniture cover the entire space, creating a unified effect.
Mo Bei was preparing to brew tea when she saw Mo Shi'ao enter Mo Tian's room. The room was both cluttered and simple. Cluttered because of the walls lined with glass cabinets filled with original manuscripts and prototypes, and a newspaper weighed down by a box. Simple because of a bed, a table and chairs facing the floor-to-ceiling window, and LED strip lighting hidden in the wall.
Mo Shi'ao gently wiped the yellowed paper, a thick stack. He placed the "Chicken Dinner Notes" on the lid and picked up the paper underneath.
The image above is also a comic book titled "E-sports Chronicles," featuring a protagonist named Mo Bei. It tells the story of Mo Bei and several borrowed friends—Hollow Knight, Ori, and Zi Ling—playing games and saving the world. It's dated August 4th, 2037. Underneath is a thin booklet detailing Mo Bei's adventures on Mira Star with Chen Bin666, Xingxing~Buzhi, and Yuwen Susanshan. It's also dated August 4th, 2037. It seems Mo Tian is quite retro; he's even writing fanfiction about Mini World.
Mo Shi'ao closed the tin box and began reading the newspaper. The newspaper, however, was a final act of tenderness offered by this era to those who cherish the past; it was not merely for dramatic effect!
The first line, with its eye-catching large headline, reads: "Shocking! Extraterrestrial Fragment Discovered." The content states that humanity has observed a crystalline fragment of space traveling at faster-than-light speed across its boundary, drifting into this universe, and landing in the suburbs of this city. The research rights to it have been monopolized by the Mo Tian Laboratory, which guarantees to continue releasing the research results publicly. The date is February 1, 2048. On one side, in a font most children assume automatically unlocks upon reaching a certain age, it reads: "Perhaps it's just that Earth is too backward," a handwriting clearly belonging to Mo Tian.
When Mo Shi'ao saw this, he knew what his son was doing: he was probably locked in the lab again, working with his team for another 12 days. And this single-minded dedication was exactly the same as when he used to hide in his room drawing his "PUBG Diary" comics.
The words "Mo Tian Laboratory" had barely caught his eye on the newspaper when, in the basement of the suburban laboratory, Mo Tian was staring at the same fragment.
Mo Tian is in the lab. The others are resting. He has been researching for seven days without any progress (not counting today).
Mo Tian stared at the extraterrestrial fragment floating in the experimental container. The panel displayed all data as unknown: zero volume, zero mass, zero density. Mo Tian grumbled, "How can something like this exist? It shouldn't exist in this world." Taking advantage of the others' rest, he decided to risk it himself.
The moment Mo Tian opened the experimental container and his finger touched the fragment, a flood of information rushed in…
A cup... the well-known Cup of Memories...
A blue dragon symbol...
A god...
A mission...
One... burdened with the destiny of civilization... yet everyone rebelled...
Mo Tian covered his head, quickly pulled his hand away, immediately closed the container, and while walking, sorted through the information. He opened "Mo Tian Assistant" on his phone and began to draw what he saw.
It was round... I don't know why it was called a god.
And this is a giant leap forward for extraterrestrial civilizations!
