Chapter 315 Damon Cross Vs. Calvin Oland III
Chapter 315 Damon Cross Vs. Calvin Oland III
The arena was buzzing with energy as the fighters sat in their corners.
After the first round, it was clear that neither man was aiming for a quick finish this time.
Both had used the opening round to feel each other out, but the heat had definitely turned up in those final moments.
At the commentary table, James Nix and Damien Korvier analyzed the fight so far, their voices carrying through the broadcast.
"Well, the first round is over, and it's clear that neither fighter came in looking for a fast finish," Nix said, leaning into the mic.
"It was about testing each other, figuring out strengths and weaknesses. But, man, we saw Damon Cross really turn up the heat toward the end there. Calvin Oland was completely on the defensive."
Korvier nodded but added his own perspective. "Yeah, Cross took control in those last thirty seconds, no question. But I don't think Calvin was as helpless as he looked. You saw him backed up against the cage, sure, he was taking damage, but I think there was more to it."
Nix raised an eyebrow. "You're saying he wanted to get stuck there? That he wanted to take those shots?"
Korvier smirked. "Not exactly, but I think Calvin was trying to send a message, or maybe set a trap. He's crafty, and he's dangerous on the ground. Cross was completely focused on striking in that moment. If Calvin had gone for a takedown while Damon was pouring it on, that could've been a game-changer."
Nix leaned back, considering it. "You've got a point there. Calvin does have a strong ground game, and he's known for those quick transitions. But he didn't pull the trigger. Do you think he's saving it for the next round?"
Korvier shrugged. "Could be. Or maybe he just wanted to get Cross comfortable, make him think he's in full control. Fighters like Calvin thrive on chaos, and that includes mind games. But you're right, if he doesn't mix things up, he's going to have a hard time keeping up with Damon's striking pace."
Nix chuckled. "Well, I'll defer to you on the wrestling side, Damien. You are the expert."
Korvier grinned. "That I am. But let's see what happens next. Round two should be interesting."
As the time ran out, both teams got their fighters ready.
Fans in the arena were very excited about the next round and couldn't wait to see how it went.
The buzzer sounded, signaling the start of round two.
Damon sat up on his stool, his mind clear and focused. He had his plan. Overwhelm Calvin Oland.
Victor's voice echoed in his mind as he stood, adjusting his gloves. "Watch for the takedowns. When you were over him last round at the end you were vulnerable, He'll try to surprise you." Damon nodded to himself. He was ready.
The referee signaled for the fight to begin, and both men stepped forward.
Calvin was grinning, loose as ever, his hands low and shoulders rolling.
Damon's face was calm, his eyes locked on Oland's every move.
"You gonna throw something or just dance all night?" Calvin taunted, stepping back briefly to reset.
Damon nodded slightly, as if agreeing, his lips barely curling into a faint smirk.
Then he struck.
As Calvin stepped forward again, Damon slipped the jab and unleashed a devastating uppercut that landed clean on Calvin's chin.
The sound of the impact was audible even over the roaring crowd. Calvin's legs wobbled, his grin completely gone.
"He's hurt!" Nix shouted. "Damon Cross just landed a huge uppercut!"
Damon didn't stop. He pounced, firing a crisp one-two combination to Calvin's head, followed by a brutal hook to the body that folded him slightly.
Calvin staggered back to the cage, his hands desperately trying to guard.
Damon saw Oland against the cage and dashed forward, raising his knee high, aiming for Calvin's gut.
The strike was fast and sharp, but the instant it connected, Damon realized Calvin had expected it, or at least anticipated an attack.
Calvin caught Damon's knee with one hand, gripping tightly and smirking. "I got you now," Calvin said, his voice brimming with confidence.
The crowd roared in anticipation as Calvin shifted his stance, clearly planning to turn Damon over and take him to the ground.
Damon reacted quickly, wrapping his hands around Calvin's head in a clinch to control his posture.
The move slowed Calvin's momentum but didn't completely halt it.
Calvin used his grip on Damon's leg to pivot, twisting his body to disrupt Damon's balance.
Damon, recognizing the shift, tried to fire a quick elbow from the clinch, aiming for Calvin's temple.
The strike was fast, but Calvin moved his head just enough to avoid it, his grip on Damon's leg unyielding.
With a grunt, Calvin drove forward, sweeping Damon's standing leg out from under him and taking him down.
The impact of Damon hitting the mat reverberated through the cage, and the crowd erupted again.
"He's got him down!" James Nix exclaimed. "Calvin Oland with a perfectly timed takedown! That's exactly what he needed to change the tide."
Korvier added, "And this is Calvin's world now. He's dangerous on the ground. Let's see how Damon handles this."
