Chapter 400 [Special] One Element, One Word
Chapter 400 [Special] One Element, One Word
880 thousand years before William met the System.
In a vast and unwelcoming void far from the Mortal Realms, a graceful woman enshrouded in flames that matched her hair faced off with fifty opponents enshrouded in a blinding golden light. The woman's brows were furrowed as she glared at each of her opponents carefully.
"How did you find me? And who has come for me this time?" she spat flames as she spoke.
"We see all that happens in the Ascended Realms, even this dark place you call sanctuary, Efretta. It doesn't matter who we are." one of the figures responded with a calm smile, as if everything had been predetermined since the beginning.
"Ha! You're not as strong as you claim to be. Why else would you send fifty just for me?" Efretta scoffed.
"You're a dangerous individual. We can't have you running away, can we?" the individual ignored Efretta's provocation. He issued an order, "Get her."
The one that spoke sat to the side while the other forty-nine figures moved in unison, surrounding Efretta from all sides. An incomparably strong Array formed between the group, erecting a barrier a million kilometers in every direction that would prevent anyone from escaping in a short amount of time.
Efretta smirked, her petite lips curling up as she said a single word, "Burn."
In an instant, the entire arena was set ablaze, the Barrier Array and all fifty golden-shrouded individuals included. The Barrier Array cracked as the group cast various Spells to counter Efretta's attack, nearly destroyed the moment it was created.
"Tch." Efretta frowned at the state of the Array, which should have been disintegrated the moment it formed. "You've put a lot of effort into this. You even brought a Superior Time-Altering Stone."
"And we will make sure you are caught this time." the individual gloated as he crushed a colorful triangular crystal.
The Array Barrier that was initially very weak was restored in an instant, duplicated by an unknown force that seemed to move time forwards and backwards simultaneously. At the same time, the injuries to the group were all healed, and their mana was restored to their peak while a chunk Efretta's Mana Reserves were consumed.
She gritted her teeth as a sense of weakness overwhelmed her, Mana of the Darkness Element drawn to her lips as another word formed.
"Disintegrate."
"Go." the Cultivator said, causing the revived souls to charge at Efretta without abandon. Life or death mattered not to them, only the opportunity to bury their opponents the same way they had been once before.
"Charles the Soul Snatcher. That's who you are. It all makes sense now why you'd use your own cousin as a substitute. I felt some pity before, but now I could care less. Fate Reversal." Efretta glared at the man named Charles as she banished the group of souls to an unknown dimension.
"Hehe. It seems that even if I change my appearance, my skills are too noteworthy." Charles smiled mischievously as his form changed to a three-meter-tall man with arms so skinny that a normal human might be able to snap them in half.
His skin was yellowing, but it carried a strong life force that seemed to belong to an uncountable number of people, a sign of how many innocent lives had been claimed by this person.
"So even the Heavens have bent you to their will, huh? You're just as trash as the rest." Efretta looked at Charles much more warily than she did before. Charles the Soul Snatcher was no cannon fodder.
"They think they can control me, but I'm after much more than their good graces." Charles' smile widened, becoming almost monstrous as a row of jagged teeth poked out.
"Ew. You concern me." Efretta frowned.
"You should be concerned about yourself!" Charles shouted as he leaped forward, Necromancy Mana forming a cloud around his hands as he reached for Efretta.
She backed off, using Necromancy Mana of her own to counter her opponent's. The two Mana collided in midair, Efretta's quickly devoured by Charles' much stronger version, but her move did the trick.
"Oho? The Talented Mage Of All has a weaker Element than me? What a surprise!" Charles sent more of his Mana to clash with Efretta, forcing her to waste more of her Mana in comparison. The other Cultivators joined in, adding more Mana to the mix and forcing Efretta on the defensive, exhausting her Mana Reserves at a visible pace.
Ten days later, Efretta was in horrible shape, while her opponents were still in good condition. The combined assault from Charles and the rest was too much even for a peerless genius like Efretta.
Her head hung low as she secretly sent out a wisp of her soul in a certain direction, which would return to her main body and form a double sometime in the next million years that would hopefully free her.
Charles walked up and used a special set of chains to bind Efretta, sealing all of her Magic and other Talents in an instant, but he failed to notice the wisp of light that sped off in the distance. Seeing Efretta's miserable condition, Charles adopted a serious attitude and issued an order to his comrades.
"It's time to turn in. Guard her well and don't let her leave your sight."
