Chapter 895 - 891: The Common Faults of Researchers

"At that time, I had just entered school and heard that the internationally renowned expert Adison Claire was coming to our school for a lecture. Although it wasn’t related to my major, I had never seen someone who had won multiple international awards, so I went anyway."Xiang Yiting said, "I was curious why she wore sunglasses and a mask, but later, when I happened to run into her at the bathroom, since my major is related to skin, I chatted with her a bit more."

Xiao Tian couldn’t help but interrupt, "So, you’re saying you’re actually just a little familiar with her face, and have no real relationship?!"

"Not exactly."

Xiang Yiting shook her head, furrowing her brow, "Adison Claire comes to our school about twice a year. I attended her later lectures too, and I could tell she has a great memory and observation skills. She could accurately find me every time and recognize me."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Tian immediately felt an urge to bang his head against a wall, "So basically, you’ve only met her a few times?"

"In fact, even some professors and the principal at our school can hardly talk to her." Xiang Yiting defended, "Being able to talk to her a few times is already quite good!"

"Also, although we haven’t had deep interactions, through a few limited exchanges, I think Adison Claire isn’t as cold as she appears. She’s actually a passionate person with a burning heart!"

Xiang Yiting said confidently, "It’s just that her appearance prevents her from releasing her inner warmth, which is why talking to her feels oppressive."

Xiao Tian took a deep breath, deciding not to fuss over these trivial matters for now. After all, they were already there, and whether it would work out or not, they had to try to find out.

Even though meeting Adison Claire might not ensure complete success, stopping at the door would guarantee failure.

With that in mind, Xiao Tian stepped forward to the small estate-like building, reaching out to press the doorbell on the square stone pillar at the entrance.

However, after pressing it several times, all that was heard was a faint, piercing noise, which seemed less effective than simply knocking on the door.

After a moment, Xiang Yiting, who had followed up, glanced at the heavy lock hanging on the iron gate. After some thought, she directly removed the lock, causing the chain to clash against the gate with a clanging sound.

Accompanied by the creaky sound of the gate opening, Xiang Yiting pushed the iron gate with some effort, saying, "Last time when people from our school came to visit expert Adison Claire, we waited for an hour and a half before she came out."

"Later, she told us never to waste time on needless trivialities. If the door isn’t locked, just go inside. Only foolish people would stand outside waiting!"

This weird logic left Xiao Tian at a loss for words, but since Adison Claire herself had said it, it seemed that Xiang Yiting’s actions wouldn’t anger her.

Entering the courtyard that seemed like it was from the last century, Xiao Tian stepped on the thick layer of fallen leaves and began to examine the building, which looked like a concentrated version of Western architecture.

The fountain directly facing the main door had long since stopped working, its nozzle encrusted with rust. The surface of the water in the basin was covered with a thick layer of green moss, completely obscuring its original color.

And though it hadn’t been noticeable outside the gate, the closer they got, the more they could smell a rotten, moldy stench. The standing statues’ surfaces were mottled, making it impossible to discern their original appearance. From the outline and some clothing details, it seemed to depict a Western lady.

Meanwhile, the broken window panes, dilapidated tiles, and swallow nests under the eaves combined to make the place look like a natural horror film set. Nearly each structure gave off a desolate vibe.

That faintly discernible original appearance that couldn’t truly be restored felt as if a heavy stone weighed down one’s heart, making even speaking feel like it would disturb the atmosphere.

However, the two did not stay long since they weren’t there for sightseeing and wanted to finish the business first.

Xiang Yiting, who had been there once before, naturally led the way, and after circling past the central fountain, she didn’t head straight for the house but instead went around the side.

Following Xiang Yiting, Xiao Tian noticed that instead of encountering the back garden as he expected, there was a building that gave off an abrupt feeling.

There stood a black iron door behind the main building, with no other structures around, as if it had risen directly from the ground, leaving one wondering where the world beyond the door led.

Upon seeing the black iron door, Xiang Yiting walked straight toward it without hesitation, saying while walking, "Actually, when I first came here, I was curious—this is actually an underground passage, and Adison Claire’s lab is beneath the very ground we’re standing on."

Xiao Tian didn’t respond, but couldn’t help but sigh, wondering if all these eccentric scientists preferred to go underground?!

Like Ghost Face, who had a perfectly good villa but insisted on moving equipment to the basement—something Xiao Tian had found puzzling before, but now believed it must be a common trait among scientists.

Finishing his thoughts, Xiao Tian had followed Xiang Yiting to the iron door, which she opened to reveal a pitch-black descent into the underground. Even amidst bright daylight, nothing inside could be seen clearly.

After a brief pause, Xiang Yiting was the first to step inside, with Xiao Tian right behind her. As they entered the path leading to Adison Claire’s underground lab, he absent-mindedly closed the iron door with a loud bang.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be so noticeable above ground, but in this cramped, dark passage, the noise seemed amplified, reverberating several times as if through a loudspeaker.

Given the dark environment here, Xiang Yiting couldn’t help but feel nervous. The sudden explosive noise immediately startled her, causing a reflexive scream and a sudden retreat, crashing into Xiao Tian’s embrace.

A moment later, with no place for his hands, Xiao Tian could only gently pat Xiang Yiting’s back in comfort, then said, "Sorry, I didn’t realize the door had a spring and would close on its own."

Xiang Yiting knew Xiao Tian hadn’t done it deliberately. Distancing herself from him in a hurry, her heart raced like a drum. After exhaling deeply, she said, "It’s okay, but remember, don’t act too surprised when you meet her."
