Chapter 4023 MU: The Superbody Incident (103)
Darkseid was thinking.
Although Schiller spoke with great certainty, the story was so outlandish that it sounded like a hoax. But it was precisely because it was so outlandish, and so unlikely to convince anyone, that Darkseid began to see some possibility of it.
“I know you may be skeptical about whether this is really possible, but it’s not difficult at all. I can even tell you how. It just requires the help of an outsider, and I would be the best person to do that.”
Darkseid squinted at him and slowly said, "Tell me the way."
“In every single universe, every character has a different origin. I mean, how they became who they are today determines what they are today. Different processes lead to different results.”
"For example, Nite Owl in the Batman group shows us what Batman would be like today if Bruce Wayne's brother had survived. Batwoman shows us what Batman would be like if the Wayne couple had had a daughter."
"This is true for every individual in the universe. A difference in a certain possibility can completely change the future outcome. And if you want to achieve a higher status, it is better to modify your innate conditions than to work hard in the future."
"Your Majesty, if I remember correctly, your status on your home planet wasn't very high, was it? If you had a higher starting point, or were the only one in the multiverse from the beginning, then why would you need to rely on Batman to participate in the multiverse battle?"
“I understand what you’re saying,” Darkseid said, “but how do I change my starting point?”
"Forgive me for speaking frankly, but this part cannot be explained verbally, as it involves knowledge of the structure of the universe. You and I are of different races and have different perspectives, but in the eyes of the Lord of Dimensions, this is not a difficult matter."
What kind of payment do you want?
“What else could a devil possibly want? I need more believers; this Earth can no longer satisfy me. When Your Majesty ascends to the Oneness of the Multiverse, you will inevitably have to deal with Earth. I only hope to have a place on the new Earth under Your Majesty's rule, what do you say?”
"Do you know how important the Earth is?"
“Yes, but a way to access the multiverse is more important.” Schiller looked up at Darkseid and said, “It doesn’t have to be His Majesty, it could be anyone else. I think quite a few evil Batmen would be interested in that, wouldn’t they?”
Darkseid paced before the throne, his heavy footsteps echoing through the hall. Then he suddenly stopped, and a red Omega ray swept across Schiller, but when it sliced through Schiller's body, it left only a trail of drifting ashes.
"I await your reply in hell, Your Majesty."
After Schiller's voice faded, Darkseid returned to his throne. He remained lost in thought, like an eternal statue.
Having marked the location of Apokolips's main star, Schiller left the Apokolips domain. Reflecting on Darkseid's attitude earlier, he realized that persuading this new god would likely require some effort.
However, what Schiller said was true, just presented in a way that Darkseid could accept. It's essentially just a change to the origin story.
As we all know, Darkseid in the New 52 was heavily nerfed, becoming not only a stepping stone for various powerful characters, but also having his origin story rewritten to be rather bland. However, Darkseid wasn't always like this.
In one version of the story, Darkseid is unique across the multiverse, and the Darkseid in each individual universe is an avatar of the original. The detailed origin story need not be elaborated upon, but it is certainly far more powerful than the version of Darkseid that Schiller just suggested.
As for how Schiller should modify the origin story, there's actually no need to modify it at all, because the Darkseid farmer version of the origin story in the main universe only lasted for a very short time, and it will be changed back after a while, which will also cause Darkseid's power to increase dramatically.
In other words, Schiller doesn't have to do anything; Darkseid will become stronger on its own, and all he has to do is take the credit for it.
As for the idea of a single entity in the multiverse, that's unnecessary. Darkseid becoming stronger would put pressure on Batman, but if he becomes too strong, he could easily be crushed by the Justice League, which would be counterproductive.
However, if it's absolutely necessary to change it, there are ways. After all, there are quite a few characters who can break the fourth wall and go outside the comics to change the content; it's just a matter of whether it's worth doing.
Meanwhile, Strange, disguised as Constantine, successfully escaped Apokolips and set the spaceship Batman had given him to autopilot, heading towards Alpha Centauri. He then left behind an illusion before detaching from the ship and heading towards the Asgardian base.
"Professor X, Professor X!" he shouted in his mind. "Immediately notify command center! A Guardians of the Galaxy team has been captured, and Batman might use them against us. Doctor Strange from the main universe has left the solar system, and Batman might target him too!"
"What?" Charles was a little taken aback, but he immediately sent a message to everyone. Soon, Marvel heroes gathered in the Asgardian conference hall.
"What's going on?" Stark asked Steve in a low voice. "Who's been captured? And what happened to Doctor Strange?"
"Remember those two Guardians of the Galaxy who got lost before? One of them was caught by Batman. As for Doctor Strange, I don't know what happened to him either. Shouldn't he be on Earth?"
“I knew he couldn’t stay on Earth,” Natasha sighed. “We were going to ask the Ancient One to come back and keep an eye on them, but she had some unfinished business in other universes, and they ran away.”
Stark sighed. He knew it was unrealistic to lock up all the Doctors; the sorcerers simply couldn't do it.
Superhero wars are quite different from ordinary people's wars. In ordinary people's wars, even if soldiers have guns, they can be disarmed and punished for violating discipline. Even if they resist, they are mostly killed on the spot. Basically, no hothead dares to resist.
Superheroes are different; they come with superpowers. Can you disarm them? Even if you could forcibly bind them, it would only work on strength-based heroes. For mages, binding them would be too difficult.
While it's possible to accomplish this with enough effort, the manpower and resources required would be unimaginable. First, a space completely isolated from magic would need to be created, then all the magic in Doctor Strange's body would need to be drained, and finally, they would all be locked inside.
But actually, this can't keep everyone inside. For example, Doctor Strange, who has the power of dreams, can directly enter the dream world. He can be locked in one moment and run out the next.
The command center's proposed plan was actually a delaying tactic, since Doctor Strange was somewhat injured. The plan was to have them stay on Earth to recover before calling back the Ancient One. While the Ancient One might not be able to stop so many people, she was, after all, their teacher and would have some deterrent effect.
Unexpectedly, Doctor Strange in the main universe didn't care about injuries at all; he just opened his eyes and started causing trouble. It just goes to show that you should never underestimate the energy and drive of a mentally ill person during an episode.
"What did the professor just say he was looking for?" Peter asked, leaning closer.
"Who? Doctor Strange from the main universe?" Strange walked up the steps from the back and said, "Currently, it's speculated that it might be an Infinity Stone. He might want to use the Space or Time Infinity Stones to deal with Apokolips."
"Infinity Stones?" Peter asked, somewhat surprised. "Where are the Infinity Stones in our universe?"
Everyone looked at each other, and finally all their eyes fell on Loki's face.
“Why are you looking at me? I only have one, and it’s the Mind Stone,” Loki said, taking out his scepter. “Besides, I haven’t used this thing in a long time. My brother’s hammer is much better.”
Steve rolled his eyes slightly. The Loki in their universe is different from those in other universes. In other universes, he is the number one sorcerer in the Nine Realms, and he is a master of all kinds of deceptive magic. In their universe, whenever there is a fight, he either shouts "God of Thunder" or picks someone up with a hammer. Sometimes, it is hard to tell who the real Thor is.
“S.H.I.E.L.D. should have an Infinity Stone, right?” Stark asked Coulson.
Coulson shook his head and said, "No."
"how do you know?"
“Because if they had one, Nick would have used it to demand an exorbitant maintenance fee,” Natasha rolled her eyes. “And it also proves that these gems must be quite hard to find, otherwise Nick would have found them all and demanded an exorbitant maintenance fee for each one.”
"Oh—" Everyone let out a helpless sigh.
"God, how much more trouble is he going to cause us?!" Captain America from the main universe couldn't help but exclaim. "The sorcerer already suffered heavy losses, which was enough of a disgrace to our universe. Now he's disobeying orders and running off on his own. What if he becomes Batman's weak point..."
He talked for a while, then turned to look at the main universe's Iron Man, only to find that the main universe's Iron Man was still intently looking at the pile of blueprints on the table. The main universe's Captain America couldn't help but call out to him a few times.
"Tony...Tony? Tony!!!"
"Huh?!" The main universe's Iron Man looked up at him, rolled up the blueprints, and said, "Things have come to this point, you're not still thinking about dominating the multiverse, are you? So what if it's embarrassing? We're still the main universe, they can't just ignore us if something happens."
Captain America from the main universe couldn't help but cover his forehead. He looked at Iron Man from the main universe and said, "It was you and Stephen who insisted on starting this war, saying you wanted to fight for a place in the multiverse, and this is your attitude now?!"
“This war was bound to happen sooner or later. I just gave them an excuse,” the main universe Iron Man said calmly. “I thought you would have seen it sooner.”
"what?"
"Have you ever noticed that the strength of a superhero in a universe does not actually depend on how strong the superhero is?"
"What do you mean?"
"But it depends on the overall development level of Earth," the main universe's Iron Man said, turning around and crossing his arms. "If Earth is strong enough, it will have enough value to make Asgard take notice, and we will have a staunch ally. And if the Nine Realms are strong enough, they can snatch a piece of meat from the mouths of the three great empires, which will make Earth even stronger. And superheroes who no longer need to be babysitters on Earth will have a broader stage, get more training, and their strength will naturally increase. This is the real virtuous cycle."
"In the battle for dominance in the multiverse, we lost the moment we set off, because Earth in our universe has never even left the solar system, and most of our superheroes have no experience in space combat. Meanwhile, ordinary people in the central universe are already very adapted to working in space. Just in terms of the ability to deal with cosmic crises, our universe has already been utterly defeated."
