Chapter 4104 MU: The Superbody Incident (181)
As the car sped along, Doctor Strange, the Dream Power expert, realized that this dream must have been quite old, perhaps around the same time as when he went to the snowy region to seek medical treatment, or maybe even earlier.
"Have you been here before?" Greed asked as he drove.
"Yes, I met a Chinese surgeon at an academic conference. He's quite famous here. After learning about my situation, he invited me to come to China for treatment. This was my first stop, but I didn't stay for very long. Looking back, I think I should have stayed here for a few days before going to Tibet."
"You probably weren't in the mood for travel back then, were you?" the agent asked.
"Not really, I was almost ready to give up at that time," Doctor Strange sighed. "Actually, I performed two more surgeries after I came here, and I felt that the results were not very good, but they still sent a lot of people to watch and learn, and they were very grateful to me, which made me feel better."
“Back then, resources were scarce here,” Greed said, maneuvering the car around the corner. “They especially lacked all kinds of talent. A top doctor like you was a rare treasure to them.”
"Yes, actually I thought that if this trip to Tibet didn't work out, I would stay here and become a teacher, which wouldn't be bad either."
The car drove along, making many turns, and finally crossed almost the entire city before arriving at a suburb that looked like it had only recently been developed. There were many guard posts here, looking heavily guarded, but it was dinnertime, and the aroma of food could be faintly smelled coming from a building not far away.
They walked along the path through the dappled sunlight filtering between the two buildings. Greed knocked on the window of the guard post. The man looked at him with some surprise, then stammered, "Hello, you...you speak Chinese?"
Greed said somewhat helplessly, "I'm looking for Dean Li. You can give him a call."
The other party picked up the phone and dialed, but quickly said, "I'm sorry, Dean Li is away on a business trip. Do you know anyone else?"
"Dr. Anatoly, or find Nurse Chen in the nursing department."
The other party made another call, and soon the door opened. Doctor Strange, the Dream Force, followed them inside, saying, "You grew up here?"
Then he looked around at the buildings and said, "But this doesn't look like a school; it looks more like a research institute..."
"Stop making things up. To me, this is a mental hospital. I had some mental issues when I was a child, and I had to be treated here."
"The treatment didn't seem to be very effective," Doctor Strange, who had clearly dealt with greed quite a bit himself, shook his head and said, "Or did it relapse after you left here?"
Greed rolled his eyes, ignoring his words. Following the orange-red light of the setting sun, he bypassed the gray building at the front, passed a huge banyan tree, and arrived at a courtyard enclosed by three buildings. A football field was painted in white on the ground of the courtyard, but the paint was peeling and difficult to see. The goalposts were welded from steel frames, and the edges and corners were rusty.
A group of children were digging in the soil of a nearby flower bed. When they saw people coming, they first ran over, but when they saw that the people were white, they screamed and ran away.
"Dr. Xiao! Dr. Xiao, your relatives are here! They look just like you!!!" a child shouted as he ran.
"Dr. Xiao?" Doctor Strange asked, somewhat puzzled.
“Shostakov,” Greed said with a hint of helplessness.
Soon, a figure emerged from the building on the left. He was wearing a white coat, a stethoscope around his neck, and appeared quite tall. He had dark brown, slicked-back curly hair, blue eyes, and black-rimmed glasses. He had a typical Slavic appearance: a high forehead and nose, deep-set eyes, and the shape of his arched eyelids and straight brows resembled an arched bridge. His thick eyelashes looked like reflections in the lake beneath the bridge.
“You’re back, Azhi,” he said with a smile.
“Wow, his Chinese is really good,” Doctor Strange exclaimed.
“You’ve worked here for over a decade, and you can still speak so well,” the agent said in a low voice.
"Yes, I'm back," Greed said with a smile. "How are the director and nurses?"
"Not bad. Dean Li is retiring soon and is going to Shanghai to visit his daughter. Nurse Chen's youngest son got into university; I heard it's a very good university in the south. What about you? How are you doing?"
“Not bad. This is Stephen, a very skilled surgeon. And this…” Greed was momentarily at a loss for words when it came to introducing the agent, so he simply said, “This is the agent, and they are all my friends.”
Anatoly seemed quite pleased. He nodded and said, "Looks like you're doing well over there. What made you decide to come back this time?"
"I..." Greed paused for a moment, then said, "It's nothing, I just came back to see you all and know that you're doing well."
"So you're leaving soon?"
"Yes, we'll be leaving soon."
Then the two of them fell silent. They walked together into the building, which had a vintage feel to it. The terrazzo floor was dark green with floral patterns, the walls were covered in blue tiles, the walls were white, and the wall lamps were surrounded by wire cages. The white plastic window frames were yellowed from the sun.
Going up to the second floor and looking out the window, you can see quilts hanging on a clothesline between two large trees, swaying slightly in the wind. Children chase each other below, laughing and screaming, their faces flushed red in the setting sun. A breeze carries the aroma of stir-fried dishes from the cafeteria, and in the distance, you can't quite make out the words, but the tone is very high-pitched.
“Oh my god, I’m a little hungry,” Doctor Strange said. “I’ll never forget my first dinner here, in their canteen. Oh my god, I’m craving braised pork.”
The agent glanced at him, then at the somewhat silent Greed and Anatoly ahead, and suddenly grabbed Doctor Strange, saying, "Come on, I'll take you to the cafeteria."
"Then they..."
"Let's not disturb their reminiscing, let's go."
The two left. Greed glanced back, while Anatoly opened the office door. Greed followed him inside, looked around, and remarked with some surprise, "This place is so small."
The office was indeed small, especially after cramming in a large desk and two large bookshelves; there was hardly any room to move. A huge pile of books and newspapers was stacked in front of the desk, the books piled high, the newspapers tied together with cable ties, reaching all the way to the ceiling. The desk was covered with all sorts of medical records, the bookshelves were full of paper documents, and even the windowsill with its floral curtains was piled with various books. It was practically a kingdom of books.
The only areas available for movement were the front left side of the desk and a small space behind it. The former was for opening the door, while the latter was Anatoli's living quarters.
Greed couldn't help but recall that in his memory, this office was huge, almost like an entire city. You never knew which nook or cranny you might find something interesting. A day spent exploring here always passed quickly, and before he knew it, it was time for dinner.
“Sit down,” Anatoly said, sitting down in his office chair first.
"Where can we sit?" Greed asked earnestly. There was simply no place to sit in the room.
Anatoly felt a little embarrassed, then he came out from behind the table, went to another room, took a plastic chair, closed the door, and placed it in the space in front of the door.
Greed sat down, watched Anatoly sit down, then sighed and said, "You went through all this trouble just to see me here, didn't you?"
"So you already found out?" Anatoly pushed up his glasses and said, "I thought I was doing a good job of pretending."
“If you really are just a dream illusion, then logically you should talk to the agent first, because his age is about the same as when I left, and he is the Ah Zhi you know best.”
"I know you best as a child. Okay, let's not talk about that. I heard you've already dealt with the Bat of Laughter?"
"It's not a solution, but he should be quiet for a long time."
"What about the Old Skrull Empire?"
"Without a trace, the new one is now besieging Asgard with the Kree Empire."
"You've met Apollo?"
"I saw it once, and I even saw the cannon you made."
"Nyarlathotep didn't ask you for money, did he?"
"I wanted it, but I didn't give it to him."
Are you still seasick?
"It won't happen after we take down Atlantis."
Anatoly looked at him knowingly and then said, "Well, it seems my old friends are all doing well."
"I've always wanted to ask, what are you trying to do with all that debt you've accumulated in both worlds?"
"Didn't you already know? I blew up Gotham's source of darkness."
Greed curled his lip and said, "That wouldn't require that much energy, and you even gathered so much stellar power. It couldn't all be for blowing up Gotham, could it?"
“Well, not entirely. In fact, the power I left you was only a small part. There was a lot more, like the power of stars, which I hid in various parts of the universe. I also kept some for myself.”
His greedy eyes lit up instantly, and he asked, "Anything else? How much is there? Where is it all?"
“I can’t tell you, otherwise you’ll definitely waste it. I have important things to do,” Anatoli said.
"What important business could you possibly have? Writing letters to arrogance while drunk?"
"Uh, he received it?" Anatoly asked somewhat awkwardly.
“Of course, he also plans to frame your letters to ward off evil spirits,” Greed shrugged. “You know, you can’t buy door gods in America, so the talismans you drew are just right.”
“That’s not a talisman, that’s… never mind,” Anatoly said. “Stop rambling and get down to business. Have you seen Xiao Chen?”
"Well, I've been wanting to ask you this for a while now, why did you send him here?" Greed asked, frowning. "He was doing so well in college, and even though he's still studying here, what's the point of changing worlds? The nurse will never see him again."
Anatoly paused for a moment, then pursed his lips and said, "You really did erase all your memories."
The greedy finger suddenly paused, then said, "So this is related to the memory I deleted? What did I delete?"
“You’ve already deleted it, so you must have your reasons for choosing to delete it,” Anatoli said with a hint of helplessness.
“Then you can make your judgment and tell me now,” said Greed.
“Actually, I’m not sure why you deleted it. There’s nothing to hide about this memory, but if you’ve added some secrets to it, then it’s hard to say,” Anatoly said, as he poured Greed a cup of tea.
“Then tell me the parts you think are harmless,” Greed said after thinking for a moment. “That way, I can know roughly what happened without regaining my memories, and the secret won’t be exposed.”
“That’s a long story,” Anatoli said, blowing on his tea.
"Then keep your story short."
"The world has ended."
"puff--!!!"
