Chapter 40 The Horror in the Conference Room
Chapter 40 The Horror in the Conference Room
Meeting room number two is located at the end of the corridor on the fifth floor.
Luo Qiu and Clyde had never been here before; normally, this place was only open to high-ranking members of the Bureau of Investigation.
The location is easy to spot; the door is made of dark brown oak with a brass plaque that reads "Meeting Room 2".
In addition, when the two arrived, there were people guarding the outside of the meeting room. Before entering, their identities had to be verified, and then they were allowed to knock and announce their arrival.
When the door opened, the scene that greeted Luo Qiu took another surprise.
The meeting room was small, with a round table in the middle covered with a dark green velvet cloth, and three water glasses and a silver teapot on the table.
Two people were sitting at the north side of the table: Mr. Radford and Mr. Henry.
The third person here, sitting by the window on the south side, is a woman, a woman wearing a veil.
The fact that a woman was being treated like this by two high-ranking officials from the Bureau of Investigation made Luo Qiu take a second look at her.
The woman was dressed simply, in a well-tailored dark blue suit, with only a delicate white lace trim around the collar and cuffs. This is the choice of most women these days. On her, the only thing worth praising was her undeniably beautiful figure.
Besides that, the top hat with a veil is also noteworthy.
Wearing a veil indoors was one thing, but the other person's facial features always gave Luo Qiu a familiar feeling.
Considering that he and Clyde came together this time, what is the woman's possible identity...?
Luo Qiu was startled for a moment.
"Mr. Radford, what brings you here?"
Beside Luo Qiu, Clyde was unaware of his companion's sudden change in demeanor.
After the two came in, no one told them what to do, so he had to be the one to speak.
Upon hearing this, Clyde noticed that Mr. Radford, who was being questioned, immediately looked at Mr. Henry, who in turn looked at the lady opposite him, as if she were now in charge.
The next moment, the veiled woman spoke.
"Are you Agent Clyde and Agent Rowling? Hello, I'm Alicia Isabella. I'm here because I heard that some audience members went missing after the concert and I wanted to find out what happened."
"Yes, you all know Miss Alicia, right? Please sit down and tell me the details of the case."
……
Clyde and Roche sat down near the door of the conference room.
This place is a certain distance away from the three of them, making it the most suitable spot.
Even so, Luo Qiu paid close attention to the reactions of the three people during the process.
Mr. Radford kept glancing at Mr. Henry out of the corner of his eye, but he only glanced at the two of them as they sat down.
Mr. Henry remained silent, his gaze fixed steadily on the teacup in front of him.
Alicia did look over, but her face was veiled, so no one could see her expression. However, she had her hands folded on her knees, a sign of great patience.
Under Alicia's gaze, Luo Qiu remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he felt uneasy.
Alicia is definitely a superhuman, and very likely a Sequence 3 powerhouse, or even higher. This is something Luo Qiu has witnessed firsthand; it can't be faked.
Did she discover her superhuman identity?
In addition, previous speculations suggested that Alicia was connected to the forces behind the Fog City.
But now, the other party has suddenly come to the investigation bureau, wanting to inquire about the concert disappearance case. What does this mean?
Is it that she didn't know the missing person was a superhuman, or that she didn't understand the situation, or is there some other meaning behind it?
With these thoughts in mind, Luo Qiu sat down and naturally placed the report in his hand on the table, face down so that no one could see its contents. He then gave Clyde a look, indicating that he would take the lead from now on.
Clyde did not refuse.
"Mr. Radford, Mr. Henry, and Miss Alicia. The situation regarding the disappearance is somewhat complicated now."
"The first missing person, Mr. Winslow, is currently known as..."
"...Yesterday's investigation yielded virtually no usable leads. Furthermore, we have not received any new leads regarding the missing persons so far."
Within ten minutes, Clyde recounted the entire incident in detail, without holding back any information.
Mr. Radford listened, and towards the end, he seemed to want to give Clyde some kind of signal, but in the end, he just watched Mr. Henry's movements expressionlessly.
Mr. Henry made no comment, and didn't even drink any tea in between.
Inside the meeting room, only Alicia seemed to be listening attentively, nodding along when she heard the key points.
After Clyde finished his report, she added:
"So, what are the next steps the two agents are preparing to take?"
"The conventional search method is not working. I was just writing an application to solicit clues from the public."
"Thank you for your hard work." Alicia nodded, and after listening to Clyde's thoughts, her voice remained unchanged: "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. Money, or other resources. I don't want anyone to suffer because of my concert."
"Miss Alicia, you flatter me. This is our Bureau of Investigation's duty. How could we trouble you?"
In the conference room, Mr. Henry finally spoke.
As a response to Miss Alicia, the statement was neither stiff nor forceful; it seemed merely a polite remark.
Upon hearing these words, Henry, standing next to him, shuddered and immediately tried to say something to express his opinion.
But at that moment, Alicia had already gotten up and walked towards the door of the conference room.
"Thank you for arranging this meeting. Please feel free to contact my agent if there is any news."
"I'll see you off."
……
After Alicia left the meeting room, Mr. Henry also left immediately.
After Mr. Radford, the supervisor, saw Mr. Henry off, he turned around and looked at the two of them again, his expression showing anxiety for the first time:
"Clyde, how could you just say you wanted to solicit clues from the public? Miss Alicia... is a big star, and she just finished a concert, so she has a lot of influence."
"Of course, that's not important. What's important is that we are the Bureau of Investigation, and you two are the Bureau's best agents."
"But, Mr. Radford, we really don't have any direction for our investigation right now," Clyde said, shrugging helplessly.
"There's always a chance for things to turn around, officers. You've only been investigating for a day; there's no need to jump to conclusions so quickly."
"Here's what we'll do. I'll raise the level of authority for this case and assign you more patrol officers... If there are any important developments in this case, report to me immediately."
"this……"
Hearing this, Clyde felt a surge of resistance. He turned to look at Luo Qiu, hoping to get some advice from him.
But Luo Qiu remained expressionless at that moment.
